This book presents the activities of Archbishop Hovsep Arghutyan (Hovsep Arghutinski) a prominent religious figure and the leader of Armenian Eparchy in Russia. The Archbishop played a significant role in resettling Armenians within the borders of the Russian empire and in founding New Nakhijevan and Grigoriopol in the last quarter of the 18th century. Hovsep Arghutyan raised the question of the national liberation struggle for Armenia from foreign yoke during Russian-Turkish wars. His activities promoted and development of the socio-economic life in New Nakhijevan and the other regions inhabited by Armenians. This work reveals the history of Armenian Apostolic church of Russia through the re-evaluation of the historical role of the Armenian Eparchy in Russia.
